Meet the Promoter Profile

In the earlier post, we mentioned that these four profiles make up over 50% of total respondents who took the DISCAsiaPlus questionnaire – Achiever (DC), Promoter (DI), Relater (IS), and Planner (SC). In this blog, we shall explore the Promoter Profile.

Understanding the DI or Promoter profile

If there’s one profile that thrives on participation, dynamism and driving results, it is the Promoter profile or the DI personality. These individuals are highly articulate, and naturally able to inspire enthusiasm. They excel in generating actions, rallying teams and infusing others with a deep sense of collective purpose. Promoters are pragmatic and creative, preferring practical solutions than getting bogged down with endless deliberation. With their ability to balance dedication to work with a love for social interaction, they bring a refreshing outlook to both professional and personal settings. The acrostic “GAIN” neatly summarises the promoter profile:

Gets results through people
Achievement before process
If it is to be, it is up to me
Never say die attitude

The “DI”/Promoter profile is typically defined by the following key traits:

Energetic and dedicated
DI brings with them boundless energy, often engaging others with work and social interactions

Ambitious and Center of attention
They are not afraid of making bold moves especially if such moves increase their visibility.

Solution focused and adventurous
Promoters are always forward looking and solution focused. They do not mind experimenting with new and innovative solutions.

Practical Tips to Engage with the DI/Promoter Profile

Here are some suggestions to engage the DI Profile

Acknowledge their immense enthusiasm
Recognise their enthusiasm and participation. Promoters value open praise when it raises their visibility.

Step up the pace
Avoid procrastination. Promoters move quickly once they have committed to a goal, channelling  all their resources to achieve it.

Focus on the big picture
Keep details to a minimum when communicating. Promoters are big picture persons. They get bored and impatient with excessive details.

Be flexible
Be flexible when dealing with them. They thrive in an environment that values creativity and freedom to act.

Engage them with ideas and outcomes
Promoters are inspired by vision and possibility. Direct their energy on future possibilities and what it will take to achieve them is highly motivating.

The Promoter is highly valued for their outward drive that brings visibility to organisations. Their blend of enthusiasm and passion with the ability to inspire others are the qualities people look for in a leader. While they may need support to navigate through processes be consistent, they are the driving force within the team — energising team morale, sparking action and keeping the team motivated. With the Promoter at your side, you can rely on them to take on the heavy lifting such as goal attainment and raising the visibility of the team or department.
